Generative AI Product Design & Development

Generative AI Product Design & Dev

As an artist, I direct every part of the creative process, including the workflow and tools used to realize the work. AI is one of many tools in my creative wrokflows, helping me quickly explore ideas, develop concepts, and bring them to life. As a solo artist, AI expands my ability to produce high-quality work efficiently and function more like a full-service creative studio across concept development, branding, and visual design.
I establish the overall creative direction by defining the concept, color palette, and subject matter. Using traditional design methods, I created the logo, website layout, and web graphics. I used AI tools selectively for the final gun render, video generation, and portions of the photo editing process, while carefully curating and refining every image to maintain a cohesive visual language.

Project Branding

This project reimagines laser tag as a more premium, immersive, and culturally relevant experience. Designed for players who value competition, realism, and strong visual identity, the concept moves beyond traditional arcade aesthetics to create something more intense, modern, and distinctive.

Target Audience

Designed for competitive and enthusiast players, this experience appeals to those who value performance, realism, and a more serious style of gameplay. It also speaks to premium laser tag venues and youth culture audiences through a bold visual identity that positions the brand as elevated, immersive, and culturally relevant.

Branding

The branding combines futuristic tactical design with influences from urban street culture to create a bold, aggressive visual identity. Its high-tech forms, dark palette, and rebellious attitude position the brand as premium, immersive, and geared toward competitive play.

Thumbnail Concept

I quickly established the foundation of the laser gun design by hand drawing multiple profile thumbnails and selecting the strongest concept. I then used line art from that design as the structural guide for an image-to-image diffusion model, while a language model helped interpret the text prompt to define the style, finish, lighting, and materials of the final image. This workflow allows me to use AI efficiently while still driving the design decisions as an artist.

Redesign Workflow

In any creative process, design changes are inevitable. Regenerating a design solely from the original thumbnail concept often produces a completely different result, making it unsuitable for small iterative updates. To solve this, I developed a workflow that lets me use AI as a tool while still maintaining creative control over each revision.

Original Design

This image is based on the original design sketch. The redesign workflow begins with the final AI-generated image, which serves as the design lock to maintain consistency.

AI Canny Conversion

Using an image-to-image diffusion model, I converted the original design into a canny line-art image. This creates a structural guide that can be edited while preserving the core form.

Human Design Revisions

I then drew over the canny line art to introduce design updates. These changes included adding a digital display, a scope, and an extended buttstock to support a larger battery.

Regenerated Design

Using the design locked image and updated canny drawing as inputs, the diffusion model regenerates the design while preserving its original look and incorporating the new changes.

Product Design Lock

I developed a dataset of turntable images of the product, used to create both product photography-style visuals and keyframes for product videos. To create a stronger design lock, this dataset could be used to train a custom LoRA, allowing the AI to generate visuals with consistent, accurate product fidelity across outputs.

Product & Model Posing

AI facilitated a multi-step process for creating an image of the subject holding the product. Through a blended workflow, I was able to extend the frame, guide the pose generation, and apply the final styling and branding, while remaining faithful to the original design of the gun.

Outpainting Process

The original image began as a close-up of the subject’s face. Using an AI outpainting process, the composition was extended to include the torso and arms.

Inpainting Process

As an additional step, the original image and the gun were used as inputs in an AI inpainting process to place the gun into the subject’s hands.

Apply Branding

Manual retouching, color adjustments, and logo placement were completed in Photoshop as the final step to unify the visual style and apply the branding.

I used ComfyUI’s node-based workflow features to art direct both still images and video generation assets through an iterative AI process, building a multifunction pipeline to generate, refine, and develop the final branding visuals and motion-based concept scenes.

Text-to-Image Generation

I art directed the final look through an iterative prompt-engineering process, testing different AI diffusion models and blending ultra-realistic and amateur-photography LoRAs to achieve the desired aesthetic.

Image to Video Generation

I used image-to-video workflows and prompt engineering to create motion scenes from the final stills, then refined and compiled them in After Effects for cohesive brand-driven video content.
